The Ben Hogan Golf Swing
One of the most iconic things in sports is the Ben Hogan Golf Swing. When you see him swing you just know that it is one of the most perfect tings in sports. Hogan was renowned for his legendary ball striking ability. This comes from his study of the game and influence on golf swing theory to this day. The key to Ben Hogan’s golf swing is pretty simply and if practiced correctly can help you to improve your game.
The Ben Hogan Golf Swing
Hogan was known during his day as a religious practitioner. There are many that think he invented the idea of practicing for modern golfer. While this is true, he also immensely enjoyed hitting golf balls. He said of this that there were very few things in this world as enjoyable as hitting a golf ball hard and crisp right where you want. He was a firm believer that everyone had a quality golf swing and it need to come out through practice and repetition. He spent years pondering this and working on the Ben Hogan golf swing.
He was not born an amazing striker and as a youth had a habit of hooking the ball badly. He was not a large man, but still hit with amazing power. The trick was how he was going to harness all of this power. One of the important parts of the Ben Hogan swing is his grip. He has a fairly strong grip on the club in his early years, but after talking with Lord Byron he loosened up a bit. This put significantly more draw in to his swing and completely eliminated his hook.
At some point Hogan is thought to have developed a secret to making his swing so automatic. This secret was said to be in a special wrist movement that was known as cupping under. In addition there is a motion in the Ben Hogan golf swing with the right knee that allows for the correct operation of the wrist. Hogan later revealed that the secret was in cupping the left wrist at the top of the back swing and using a weaker left hand grip. This was primarily done to prevent himself from hooking the ball off the tee.
So as you can see the “secret” to the Ben Hogan golf swing is that he had a problem that he corrected, and in doing so it created on of the most perfect swings in all of golf. This was only possible by practicing as much as possible.
